2024-11-20 Does a home user need a router for added security?
I have read all of your reviews on
the virus software companies. My question is; does a home user need a
router for added security? I have been told by many who use computers
that it's a good idea. The only one who said that I should "take it
back to the store", was a tech support worker at my ISP. Well what is
your opinion?
Thank You, Mr. Ford
To Have or Not to Have... that is the question.
To
answer the question, should you install a router, we need to address

security related. Then, look if these services and functions are being

I feel on my heart to educate readers about an extremely important subject if you have children. Protecting your children against the obscene and graphic pornography that is so easily accessible on the Internet. On average, pornography is only four clicks away from any given website. The majority of children are surfing the Internet with little or no protection preventing them from harmful material.
The first step, as a responsible parent, is to educate them on the importance of safe computing, and Internet browsing. Communicate with your children about how the Internet works and how easy it is to stumble onto inappropriate material. Also tell them to never give out any personal information. Only communicate with friends and family, and never with anyone they do not know personally. Education and training along with proper supervision are foundational to making the Internet a safe experience for children.
Second, educate yourself on the purpose of you child's Internet activity. Ask them if they are only surfing the Internet, or will they be using instant messaging, chat rooms, and email? Sit with them and confirm with them they are using these Internet tools properly.
Third, come up with a plan on what they should do if the situation occurs. Promote communication, and thank them when they come to you sharing about a problem, or an occurrence. Have them explain how it happened, review the process, and reinforce how to prevent the situation from happening again.
Fourth, take the steps to put safeguards in place to help prevent these situations from occurring. With an average investment of about thirty dollars, you can greatly lower the potential of a priceless child from having to deal with these obscenities. Today's parental control software applications go along ways in greatly reducing the chance your child will be a victim of viewing un-requested, unsolicited, pornographic content.
Alcatraz Security currently recommends Content Watch as parental control software applications.
